On this day in 1964, the White Sox beat the Orioles 9-5 in front of 29,465 at Comiskey Park to move to 30-14 on the season and give the Sox a 1 1/2-game lead over Baltimore. Juan Pizarro got the win to move to 7-2 on the season. Hoyt Wilhelm picked up his 12th save.
In Detroit, the Tigers whacked the Twins 16-1. Future star pitcher Denny McLain picked up his first win and first complete game of the season. Don Demeter was 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBI. Bill Dailey allowed eight runs in 1/3 of an inning for Minnesota.
